For centuries, the art of watchmaking has captivated humanity with its blend of precision engineering and aesthetic beauty.
In the 17th century, the introduction of the balance spring significantly improved the accuracy of mechanical watches. This development marked the beginning of a new era where pocket watches became a staple accessory for the discerning gentleman. Fast forward to the 20th century, the quartz crisis posed a significant threat to traditional watchmaking. However, it also spurred a renaissance, pushing mechanical watches to evolve and adapt, ultimately leading to the resurgence of these timeless pieces in the digital age.
Today, we stand on the cusp of another revolutionary breakthrough. At HORAGE, we have always embraced innovation while respecting the traditions of our craft. Our in-house movements, such as the K2 and K-TMR, are testaments to our commitment to excellence and our pursuit of horological perfection.
But we are never content to stand still, time always advances. The world of watchmaking is about to experience a transformation that will bridge the gap between tradition and the future. This groundbreaking advancement promises to redefine accuracy and personalisation in ways previously unimaginable.
We can't share all the details just yet, Leon is hard at work preparing the website, but we assure you that this is something you won't want to miss
We invite you to join us on July 24th, 2024, at 14:00 CET, as we unveil a groundbreaking advancement that promises to reshape the future of regulation in mechanical watchmaking.
Stay tuned, and prepare to witness the third revolution that will change the world of horology forever.
What do you think it will be?
Let us know in the comments!
What will be the user-regulated range? Lets say, my watch will be delivered factory regulated and user regulation degree is 0 (althought it is probably 5 according to the picture) at that time - how many 0.1s steps can I regulate +-? Is it +/-0,5s total or +-5s total or some different range? I love how you at Horage think, design, produce and communicate things, already got my 10yrs Autark watch from you (which is now my sons favourite, he wears that every day...)
Am I correct saying that the hours disc on the front side is rotating counterclockwise, so if the time is currently 8:30, you can see digit 8 on the right side from the centerline?
Thank you!
This new watch will have a modified/upgraded K2 movement then right. So basically K2ZERO ;)
For future watches (and/or to have lower cost watches, or sales of movements to third parties) will you keep using the K2 movement, or do you plan to only use the new K2 with MicroReg?
As for the new watch, I'm all for showing off the movement. However, if this is going to be the most accurate movement of Horage to date, yet the legibility on the front is not as accurate as earlier watches. Then that is a bit contradictory. Would have also been nice to be able to wear both sides on top.
How long will the MicroReg Founder Supporter coupon deal run for?
and here I was being content with owning two Horage watches ;)
scratching my head about the time display at the front - is that moving disk always to be read at 6? any idea on how long the 1st round of buying will stay open?
Interesting innovation and it's great to see you combining it w/ silicon.
I am assuming you will continue regulating movements manually and that the mircoreg system will only be used for offsets after casing?
Do you have a sense of the stability of the system? I.e. is it shock proof and rock solid over time? As any elasticity there would negate the benefits of the solution?
I'll follow the journey!
PS. Can the vouchers be used for pre orders as well? If so this is enticing to say the least :)
Well.....I wasn't far out, although the regulating device is externally powered rather than being internal as in the Spring Drive/Kinetic thus removing the need to store power within the watch.
A brilliant concept and design which can, hopefully, be rolled out to all new Horage watches. Unfortunately I would prefer a watch with hands rather than a "time disc", although I understand the need to show off the new technology. In view of this I will not be buying one. Sorry!
However if you were to bring out an Autark with MicroReg then I would order that today!
G
PS I already have an Autark T5
mmm....Andi Felsi is a Board member of both Horage and Miniswys, so I guess it is a form of piezoelectric control/regulation of a mechanical watch. This would be similar in concept to the Seiko Spring Drive but sufficiently different to avoid patent infringement. Interesting to see how they store/handle the electrical energy without the need to have an accumulator as in the original Seiko Kinetic system, which used the movement of the watch to generate the electricity needed to power the quartz mechanism.
Was travelling internationally when this announcement came out, so now I'm finally reading and thinking about this (now that I'm back at work!).
Sounds like you are working on an user friendly externally adjustable method of regulation?
An electrical method of regulating a traditional movement?
My hope:
A novel mechanical method - something vaguely similar to a silicon leaf spring (like the GP 'Bridges') or a silicon oscillator (FC 'Constant Monolithic')
Looking forward to finding out and excited to hear about continued innovation from Horage!
A mechanical piezo? An in between between the low frequency and low accuracy handful of Herz mechanical watch and the high accuracy quarz movements in the 10 kiloHerz range. Keeping time is just counting beats, if you have more you get more accurate. Just curious how you get the high voltage needed to drive the piezo purely mechanically. Perhaps using electrostatics and the triboelectric effect.
Something like an externally controlled automatic regulator, that way the watch is still 100% mechanical but it is even more precise than a quartz one, the big question is how do you power something like that without a battery
Wow David this notice indeed caught my eye, after reading your hint my mind cant help but keep linking it with Omega Spirate, finally we are seeing modern swiss watch making flourish😆
sounds fascinating !!
I will be high up in the air during the announcement. But the mention of Miniswys on FB together with accuracy and personalisation gives a strong hint. Hope I can get the streaming runnin while sipping on champange.
Spirate-Tourbillon, with METAS certification.
My guess is a new type of escapement maybe an oscillator
I have the feeling we will se the “superlative chronometer” standard being crushed. Like Spirale but available. 🤣
A movement improvement that leads to zero lubrication needed? I remember Roger Smith saying that is a goal of his that seemed like an amazingly difficult goal to achieve.
Something like Spirate from Omega?
You should have wait with this announcement until Wednesday morning - too long to wait now... :)
Is this new IP or repurpose/refinement of existing IP?
