As an All-terrain GMT, Supersede needs to be able to change with the times and most importantly with the conditions. The 904L stainless steel bracelet is a show stopper, but when the going gets tough it's nice to change things up.
Back in the 1960's watchmakers introduced natural rubber straps for water bound divers. The idea was great, but the material didn't perform all that well. Of course times and material composition have changed and today rubber straps have moved from natural rubber to FKM hypoallergenic synthetics that are not only used in sport watches, but in the fields of medicine and chemistry for their chemical and heat resistant properties and longterm reliability.
For watches, FKM rubber straps are most popular due to the unprecedented comfort they provide and the immediate fit they offer. Known as fluoroelastomer (fluorocarbon elastomer), the material hit the luxury watch scene around 2006, but was made famous by Apple with its Apple watch straps. The soft, yet highly rugged material is ready to go from day one and this is why it was only fitting to include not just one but three FKM rubber strap colour options with SUPERSEDE.
A lot of thought went into the unique rubber strap development for SUPERSEDE. The premise for the design was to create a heightened level of wearability, security on wrist and ensure the details complemented the complex and varied case design. The under side of the strap has a deep groove to decrease the amount of surface area making contact with the wrist, which in-turn creates an air pocket over the skin. To move the air within the air pocket we have notched the outer sections of the strap to allow for air to flow and to further reduce surface area on the skin. The notches are significant enough to move air and increase comfort, but not impede the straps durability or security on wrist.
In regards to security we have opted for a pin buckle option for the rubber strap. A completely new pin buckle design was created and the finish carries over the mix of brushed, polished and matte surfaces of the SUPERSEDE case. A benefit of rubber straps is the ability for the material to flex when a person has wrist in motion and to ensure a strap stays in place therefore the tried, tested and true pin buckle was the most fitting option. Finding the perfect strap colour wasn't easy as we wanted to offer variation that didn't overpower the aesthetics of the watch. Black is a staple and can be found in various accents throughout the dial, it goes well with a dial colours so it was a natural first choice. Blue was the second option we decided upon as blue has always been one of our stronger strap option colours and really fits well with all dial colours. Finally we integrated a light grey as it is a more contemporary colour that is neutral yet creates a fresh warm water and island look.
Atoll Blue Dial
Transatlantic Blue Dial
Boreal Green Dial
12:00 White Dial
Jet Stream Grey Dial
24:00 Black Dial
There you have it! Three rubber strap options to choose from and if you like there will be additional ones for sale at the time of pre-order. I think on the white dial the gmt hand could be orange to provide better contrast and match the seconds & 24 hours hands ?
Just saw your youtube presentation. I agree that a slimmer buckle would be better.
Love the new strap options.
I'm a simple man so the black would be a preferred option for me.
Alsooooooo
Any thoughts on inverting the 24h subdial?
So 6am would be at the 9 o'clock position to imitate the sun rising overhead during the day and "setting" (6pm) at the 3 o'clock position?
Then the black evening/pm is on the bottom?
I know I am very late to the party but just a thought!
Rubber strap is definitely a nice addition! Curious to know how the thickness in combination of the material will wear on the wrist. Not sure if this is feasible, but lets say there was enough critical mass for an orange strap (or pick another color/pattern) run, make it maybe a limited run at first and require a deposit so Horage can balance the front end cost/risk while fulfilling a community desire? Love the momentum with k2!!!
Hi there
Super excited about the preorders, though I have to say the 72hr window is short (especially since deliveries are a year ahead)
Can you make sure you offer some flexibility for change until people get a chance to see live products (not just render) and before you enter component production phase?
I'm thinking about the ability to change dial color, rubber color, maybe bracelet finish
Thanks!
I really like the white dial but torn between the black and blue straps. But both look great.
I think I like the atoll blue with the grey strap followed by the white dial with the blue strap. They all look amazing honestly!
white dial with a blue and orange strap if made - if not probably the grey one
是否有考慮過隕石錶面?非常特別的錶面
Green dial and blue strap but again ...I would prefer green and orange if available.
Supersede give me that feeling, it can dare!
Thanks to Stokesy2 for pointing out that the GSM hand on the white dial seems difficult to distinguish - white was my preferred choice! Forget the design of the watch - its first job must be to be legible. Looks amazing on a blue or grey rubber strap too! The brilliant thing with a second strap is that you get a completely different feel for such a small outlay: 2 watches for the price of 1! The quality looks amazing, so well done guys.
Bit at odds with the overall watch design, but orange is the new black the saying goes.
I’ve been mentally toying with strap colours other than the blue black and grey… so here’s an unofficial orange render (above) ;) Landon: do pull if unfair to tease!
Love the white, followed by black and blue. If there's room for a 4th, orange. Hopefully they work well for 16.5cm (6.5") wrist and noted Tzuyu's response to WY above regarding design goal.
With either blue dial, then a blue strap. Not sold on the light gray in the pictures, but might be on the wrist. Was surprised not see orange among the three as I think it would complement all six dials and would probably have been my first choice, especially since most of the time I would wear the watch with the bracelet. And when I would convert to the strap I would want the additional visibility the orange strap attracts. As it is now, I would likely play it safe with a green dial and a black strap.
Thanks for replying. While that's unfortunate, it's totally understandable.
Any chance we could get a shorter rubber strap option for those of us with >7" wrists? I love rubber straps, but my main problem with them is that most are way too long.
Transatlantic blue or black dial, that will be the question for me. Difficult to distinguish as the pictures are too small. Both can go with either the black or (dark) blue strap. Not with an orange strap though.
