Water Ready Straps

As an All-terrain GMT, Supersede needs to be able to change with the times and most importantly with the conditions. The 904L stainless steel bracelet is a show stopper, but when the going gets tough it's nice to change things up.

Back in the 1960's watchmakers introduced natural rubber straps for water bound divers. The idea was great, but the material didn't perform all that well. Of course times and material composition have changed and today rubber straps have moved from natural rubber to FKM hypoallergenic synthetics that are not only used in sport watches, but in the fields of medicine and chemistry for their chemical and heat resistant properties and longterm reliability.

For watches, FKM rubber straps are most popular due to the unprecedented comfort they provide and the immediate fit they offer. Known as fluoroelastomer (fluorocarbon elastomer), the material hit the luxury watch scene around 2006, but was made famous by Apple with its Apple watch straps. The soft, yet highly rugged material is ready to go from day one and this is why it was only fitting to include not just one but three FKM rubber strap colour options with SUPERSEDE.

A lot of thought went into the unique rubber strap development for SUPERSEDE. The premise for the design was to create a heightened level of wearability, security on wrist and ensure the details complemented the complex and varied case design. The under side of the strap has a deep groove to decrease the amount of surface area making contact with the wrist, which in-turn creates an air pocket over the skin. To move the air within the air pocket we have notched the outer sections of the strap to allow for air to flow and to further reduce surface area on the skin. The notches are significant enough to move air and increase comfort, but not impede the straps durability or security on wrist.

In regards to security we have opted for a pin buckle option for the rubber strap. A completely new pin buckle design was created and the finish carries over the mix of brushed, polished and matte surfaces of the SUPERSEDE case. A benefit of rubber straps is the ability for the material to flex when a person has wrist in motion and to ensure a strap stays in place therefore the tried, tested and true pin buckle was the most fitting option. Finding the perfect strap colour wasn't easy as we wanted to offer variation that didn't overpower the aesthetics of the watch. Black is a staple and can be found in various accents throughout the dial, it goes well with a dial colours so it was a natural first choice. Blue was the second option we decided upon as blue has always been one of our stronger strap option colours and really fits well with all dial colours. Finally we integrated a light grey as it is a more contemporary colour that is neutral yet creates a fresh warm water and island look.

There you have it! Three rubber strap options to choose from and if you like there will be additional ones for sale at the time of pre-order. For the pre-order round we have reduced the price from 150CHF to 120CHF for anyone wishing to add some straps to their order. Also, for anyone going for the full payment option you will receive a strap of your choice with the purchase of a watch.

November 23rd at 14:00 CET is when the first pre-order starts and it will run for a full three days or 72 hours just like the power reserve of the K2 calibre that keeps Supersede ticking.

All six dial colours are on offer for the first pre-order only. As well you will have the option of brushed or polished centre links on your bracelet and of course all three rubber strap colours will be available.
